Is Lost in Random The Eternal Die worth your time? (2025)

Lost in Random: The Eternal Die is a roguelite action game by Stormteller Games, and it’s the follow-up to the popular original, Lost in Random. You play as Queen Aleksandra as you’re cast into the Black Die itself.

Trapped by Mare the Knight, it’s your job to fight your way through a labyrinth filled with enemies from the previous game and a few new ones. Epic boss fights, various weapons and cards, and tons of relics combine to make this game a ton of fun.

But you may be wondering, is it really worth your time? Let’s explore.

Eternal Die has a lot going for it

The Eternal Die is fun, that much is for sure. The combat is satisfying, there’s plenty of variety (at first), and the characters are awesome. You’ll meet some really interesting folks trapped in the black die along with you. And when I say “folks” I mean a giant frog monster, a giant, violent suit of armor, that sort of thing.

The art style is alluring, too, and the Tim Burton-esque landscape and characters are very appealing. You have a variety of weapons to choose from to aid you in your fight. The sword, bow, spear, and hammer are all great options. Though once I discovered the poison hammer, I didn’t really need anything else.

Then you get a ton of relics throughout your playthrough, and you place these relics on a board. Line 3 of the same color up, and you get a power boost. Line up 5, and you get a double power boost.

The power boosts themselves are varied, too, with five different categories to improve various combat abilities.

The bosses are quite satisfying to defeat, and took me a few tries to get used to the attack patterns. It’s not a dead-easy game, that’s for sure, and for someone like me, the level of challenge whilst playing on normal is totally fair.

There is an easier difficulty level if you find the game too much of a challenge, but sadly, there is no harder difficulty level, which I think the game sorely needs.

The sound effects are fantastic, as well. Overall, it’s a really well put-together game that offers loads of polish for such a small team. You can basically feel the passion as you play your way through The Eternal Die, and therefore, if you enjoy Roguelite games, I highly recommend picking up this one.

But all games have their drawbacks…

While the variation in the beginning feels great, 15-20 hours in, it starts to feel less novel. I felt myself slowly becoming bored with the game, which was inevitable — I’m not even really a fan of roguelites. The Eternal Die still managed to hook me and offer close to 20 hours of entertainment, and it’s a game I’ll pick up and play every now and then.

In that sense, it’s kind of like Brotato. You’ll keep coming back, and at just $24.64 for the Premium and $22.49 for the Standard edition on pre-order, you’ll more than get your money’s worth.

The procedural generation is fantastic, but given the nature of the game, it doesn’t do enough to provide endless replayability for me. In the end, however, you’ll more than get your money’s worth, as established before. But, is this game truly worth your time?

Verdict: Is The Eternal Die worth your time?

In short, definitely. I’m giving this game the big thumbs up as one not to be missed. If it can offer you just ten hours of fun, where else could you get that much entertainment for a mere $25? You’re also not paying that for a half-built early access mess. The Eternal Die is supremely well-polished and shows a lot of love and care from the studio.

So if you’re into roguelites, Tim Burton, or even just want to try your hand at something a little different, you’ll have fun with The Eternal Die, you can bet on that.
